Things Piquing My Interest On This Peak Of The Week

April 14, 2021 by Sharon

It’s Wednesday! The Peak of the Week. Here are some things piquing my interest on this beautiful day!! What’s piquing yours?

Let me just brag for a second about the beautiful area I now call home. This view never gets old as I drive up the hill into my adopted little hometown!

Snow is one things piquing my interest today! We have a chance of snow this weekend. Ah, No Thank You!

Laser Treatments- Another thing piquing my interest. I was set to start up on regular anti aging skin care when COVID-19 hit last year. Now that I’m fully vaccinated. ( Monday was my I-day, Immunity Day!) I’m on it. Surprisingly, after taking photos of my face and analyzing my skin, she told me I don’t have a lot of sun damage. To start, I’m going in monthly for these Clear and Brilliant Laser treatments. There is no real down time which is very appealing to me! I’ll keep you updated on how I like the treatments.

This is right after the Clear and Brilliant treatment. It did not hurt, but felt a bit like a sunburn. It looks much worse than it feels.

After several hours. So much better. I can walk Wednesday morning with lots of sunscreen and a hat!! I’m fine with that!!

Now on with some links I’m loving this week!

Why You Should Always Plant Flowers with Your Vegetables-I’ve always heard about this. I may try it this year!

27 Vintage Church Cookbook Salads That Deserve to be Praised– I had just told my husband I was planning on experimenting with a variety of salad recipes this summer, and this article appeared!! So many good recipes here.

Don’t Get On The Anniversary Train– April is a hard month. Today was hard at times. The “date” is approaching. I know it’s coming. I can’t stop it. What do I do to cope? I read this article many years ago, and it still rings true today. April 29th will be the 9th year anniversary of the death of my first husband. This article has so much truth about dealing with loss years later. It’s not terrible grief any more, but it’s still there. I feel it in my body before my brain acknowledges that it’s that time of year. It’s an odd feeling. I felt it today.

Throw Blankets– For those of you who bought these blankets after my IGTV showing the—Thank you! I can’t wait to show you these blankets in my new back yard!

Small Gatorade Packets– I’ve mentioned before that I’m trying to stop any use of single use plastics. I found these powder Gatorade packets. It is so dry where I live. Just breathing here makes me less hydrated. I’ve started having one of these in my water each morning after my walk. I water them down so they aren’t quite so strong, but they sure are refreshing!

My Birthday Surprise– My mother “Venmoed” me money for my birthday. Yes, my 85 year old mother uses Venmo. She also told me exactly what she wanted me to buy myself with the money. I can’t not obey my mother!! It’s definitely a splurge, but I’m loving it so far. It is amazing how it curls my hair. I still haven’t even watched the videos teaching how to use each device, but I will. I’ll share what I learn as I go. I’m loving it so far!!

What I’m Reading

The Beauty Of Living Twice– I just finished Sharon Stone’s new memoir. My favorite genre, but I wasn’t crazy about this book. It was interesting, but a bit hard to read for me. Not that the subject matter is hard. Her word choice and just the way she writes is a bit hard for me. That’s all.

The Giver Of Stars-I just started this Jo Jo Moyes book. If you haven’t read any of her books, start with the Me Before You trilogy. I love her work!!

What I’m Watching

The Chosen– I don’t even know what to say about this. It was hard at first because I kept thinking, “this is in the bible.” I finally told myself to “suspend my disbelief.” That did the trick. The speculative aspect of the story just brings the characters to life. I love, love, love these shows!!! Don’t miss this. It is spectacular!!

PBS’s Hemingway– I’ve never really studied Hemingway. Not even when I took late American literature did we read much of his works. I fell in love when I taught The Old Man and the Sea and when I read A Movable Feast.

If you really want to have some fun, read The Old Man and the Sea and keep track of all the Christ images!! For even more fun, read A Movable Feast and then watch Midnight In Paris. So so good!!

What I’m concentrating on around my house– The workers are doing a great job redoing our backyard. I can’t wait to share pictures!! I’m working on cleaning windows and blinds inside because after the yard is complete, I have a young man lined up to wash all my outside windows. They will really need it after all this!
