Things Piquing My Interest #83

May 11, 2022 by Sharon

Driving towards Los Alamos, New Mexico 5-8-2022

On April 22, 2022 a fires started in the beautiful Jemez Mountains in New Mexico. As the days have progressed, the fire has slowly moved closer and closer to the town in which I live. We are now under “Set” orders in the Ready Set Go program for dealing with wild fires.

We have several boxes and suitcases near our front door ready to load into our car in case we get the order to GO.

We are hopeful that the Go order will not happen. Although we’ve had terrible winds the past few day, our brave firefighters have been able to hold the fire for the most part. If we can make it through to the end of the week, the wind will die down, and I’m hoping they can make progress in their fight.

I’ll be sharing pictures from the fire in this post.

So a Wild Fire is the most important thing piquing my interest these days! Here are a few others on this Peak of the Week.

Here’s What’s Piquing My Interest On This Peak Of The Week!

15 Books For Those Dreaming Of Traveling To Paris- I’m dreaming of traveling to far off places! Here are some books on Paris travel. While on this topic, I love following Habitually Chic. She’s been in Paris and shared some amazing photos on her IG account. She also has a great guide you can purchase from her if you are going to Paris. As her month in Paris is ending, she passed the baton to Ina Garten at dinner yesterday. Now I’m going to be watching what Ina is doing in Paris!!

ALA Releases Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2021– I’m still watching all the book challenges and bans that are happening around the country. At least Little Red Riding Hood and The Bible aren’t on this list this year. If you are OK with book banning, you need to understand that ANY book can and has been challenged and banned.

Habitually Chic Guide To NYC– Habitually Chic has a free map/guide for NYC for free. My daughter who lived in NYC for several years wasn’t super impressed with this, but this is a great place to start!!

Coastal Grandmother Style! I love it as much as I love this movie.

The “Coastal Grandmother” Rises in All Her White-Linen Glory– Have you seen all the rage about Costal Grandmother style? I have, and I’m all about it. If you want more, just Google the phrase!!

Bucket Hat– I love Diane Keaton’s bucket hat in this movie. Here is the link to one I bought.

Hummingbird Feeders– My hummingbirds are loving these new hummingbird feeders. I love them too. They are half the size, and the whole to fill and clean is a lot larger than most feeders!

Progressive Glasses– I need readers, but I also need progressive glasses. My eye doctor’s office suggested that I get them off of Amazon. I just order based on what I need in readers which is 2.0. Everything else works great. I wear the black ones a lot. I have people stop me all the time to tell me how much they like them. I was accosted (well, you know) in Sephora in Denver because a couple of people in there swore I was wearing Celine glasses and had to know where I got them. Amazon!!!

J Crew– We are spending a week in Breckenridge, Co for my daughter’s wedding in a few weeks. I shopped for things to wear at J Crew when I was in San Antonio! They have some really cute things and have savings up to 40% going on now!

Coach Sandals– I’m still wearing these Coach slides almost everyday!! Thanks to those of you who bought from my link when I shared them in stories on IG.

What I’m Reading

Life Force– This was a bit like reading an infomercial for business that he invests in, but it was very informative about new medical advances!

Yoga Pant Nation– I love all books written by Laurie Gelman. If you recognize her last name, you are correct. Her husband is the ex. producer of Live With Kelly and Ryan. Her books are light hearted and fun. If you’ve ever had much to do with parent groups at school, you’ll love Class Mom. It’s the first in the series! My local librarian graciously orders so much of what I request. I love my library!!

Finished Atlas Of The Heart in my ongoing book study with my friend in Texas. It was amazing!

Living Untethered is our next book to read and discuss. The Untethered Soul was the first book we ever read together. It is one of the best self-help books I’ve ever read. I highly recommend it. We can’t wait to start his newest.

How To Tell A Story-I love to write, but I’m a terrible story teller. I ramble on and on. I backtrack and go off on tangents!! It’s just awful. This book interested me. I’ll see and let you know!!

What We Are Watching

Corrie Ten Boom Documentary– If you have never read The Hiding Place, you must read it now! Some people reread it every year. It is an amazing story. I didn’t realize that there is a museum where she and her family hid Jews during WWII just like there is a museum in the Anne Frank House. This is a great documentary.

American Road Trip– OK this is a little like watching Uncle Robert’s home videos of his vacation, but Dr. T and I are hooked. We have seen parts of the country we’ve never seen. We’ve also learned about traveling around in an RV. It’s worth it.

We’ve started season 6 of Better Call Saul. He is so likable!! We’ve decided since this is the last season. We will wait a couple of years, then we will watch Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad all the way through!! Yes, we’re boring like that!

Area Of Home I’m Concentrating On

My yard and garden of course!! If you follow my stories, you know I’ve had my garden plants for a while. I’m waiting because the winds have been so strong. Plus, we have a no watering ordinance right now because of the fires around.

I guess that’s it for now! Please continue to pray for New Mexico. There are so many fires!! The fire near Las Vegas, NM has burned over 200,000 acres! Schools are out out here. The national laboratory that employees over 10,000 people who work tirelessly for our national security is on remote working status. It’s bad!!!

What’s piquing your interest this week and month? I’d love to know!!

Our firefighters are brave men and women who give up so much to help us. We are forever grateful.
