Things Piquing My Interest #78

November 17, 2021 by Sharon

Several things are piquing my interest on this Peak of the Week/ Peak of the Month! If you remember, I’m not doing the Peak of the Week every week. It has just been too time consuming to get it done. So for the near future, I’ll do a mid-month/ mid-week post with things piquing my interest!

As I type this, it’s fairly warm here in New Mexico. We haven’t had any snow yet this year, which is really unusual. I’m not complaining, but I guess I am a bit. I miss the snow– not the cold!! But I guess they go hand in hand don’t they?

I’m including more fall pictures because although most of our leaves are off the trees here, I’m still reminiscing of how beautiful fall was! I hope you enjoy them– until next year!

Here are things piquing my interest this month

Women’s Bean Project– This is a non-profit out of Denver. The company my daughter works for sends employees gift packages a lot since they are all working remotely. While she was here, her gift was a cookie package from the Women’s Bean Project. The cookies were delicious, but the organization is the great thing.

This is off of their website:

“We are a Colorado 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to change women’s lives by providing stepping stones to self-sufficiency through social enterprise. Women’s Bean Project believes all women have the power to transform their lives through employment. So we hire women who are chronically unemployed and we teach them to work by making nourishing products that we sell across the US through some of the country’s largest retailers. We offer a transitional job in dry food manufacturing designed to provide women immediate income, arrange support services to overcome barriers to employment, and teach the job readiness and life skills needed to get and keep a job. Through their work at the Bean Project, the women learn to stand tall, find their purpose and break the cycle of poverty. Because when you change a woman’s life, you change her family’s life.”

I have ordered many items and they have all been wonderful! What a great Christmas gift. Good food plus you are empowering women with every purchase!!

Making Phone Calls To The Departed– Watch with a Kleenex! What a special idea to put a phone out for people to call loved ones who have passed away. My daughter has dreams with her dad where she is able to catch him up on her life. I don’t have those dreams. This phone would be good for me!

You’re Not Uncool. Making friends as an adult is just hard– I have some great friends here. Most are not in the same stage of life that I’m in though. I told a friend in Texas the other day that I miss just going to lunch with my girlfriends! I could sure use a shopping trip to look at all the Christmas decorations! I just don’t have friends like that here! It has taught me a valuable lesson that I plan on always remembering— You can never have enough friends. Women my age tend to already have their friends. They don’t seem to need more. I won’t let that happen when I meet someone who is new to any town in which I live in the future!!

The 24 Most Beautiful Restaurants in San Antonio– Keeping this for future reference!! I love eating out!

What I’ve Been Reading-

Can be purchased HERE. This book has been on so many lists. I loved the beginning. I was fascinated with the author’s voice, but my fascination fell. It just got a bit odd. I finished it, but really didn’t want to.

Can be purchased HERE. I just finished this book. I really liked it, but I always like a good memoir– they are all good to me. I love seeing how peoples’ lives have been influenced. I remember so much of what she talks about. Her being blasted in the media when they called her “fat” in her mom jeans! By the way, she was in a size 25 jean!!

Can be purchased HERE. I loved this book. Some chapters I loved her and others I couldn’t stand her. If you’ve read it, let me here your thoughts!

What I’m working on at home–

Like some of you, I’m starting to put up my Christmas decorations. We aren’t hosting Thanksgiving so I can get out as much Christmas as I want. It sure makes me happy.
