How I Changed My Morning Routine

July 26, 2022 by Sharon

Morning Routine

Do you have an effective morning routine? I thought I did until I realized that I didn’t. You see my old morning routine consisted of getting up to drink coffee and eat a small breakfast all while keeping myself up on the world by watching the Today Show. I realized that I needed a change. How I changed my morning routine has made a huge difference in my life.

Let me tell you how I changed my morning routine to improve my life!

Now, don’t get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with watching the news, but I don’t start my day with it anymore. I went from Coffee, breakfast and news to…

Coffee, Breakfast and Writing, Bible Study, and Prayer

For the past several weeks I get up and do the most important things first. It has made a huge difference in how I face the challenges of the day. I don’t have to find time in the day for writing, bible study and prayer because I’ve started my day with it. I then leave for exercise and come home ready to tackle the rest of the day.

Coffee and Breakfast are a must. I sometimes go to bed thinking of how wonderful that first cup of coffee is goin to be the next morning. I love to make the perfect cup. That first sip is magic!

Writing is essential. If you follow me on Social Media, you know that I’m reading and doing Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way. Two things that are musts if you follow this creativity journey that Julia teaches are Morning Pages and Artist Dates. Morning Pages are three pages of stream of consciousness writing first thing in the morning. That is what I’ve been doing every morning.

Can Be Purchased HERE

Bible Study– Right now I’m doing a bible study with people from my church using the YouVersion Bible App on my phone. We are in a private group within the app reading through the book of John. We do our reading for the day, and then anyone can comment about what was meaningful to them. I have loved it!! I am going to be doing another study with my daughter when I’m finished with this one.

Prayer– I have been doing a particular Guided Prayer inconsistently for the past several years. I believe that God has placed a desire in my heart to make this guided prayer I’ve been doing into a book. Writing this guided prayer journal is now my biggest goal in my life. So… I need to be doing this consistently. Having this changed routine has helped me tremendously to keep up with this prayer journal.

Exercise– After I do all the above, I make my bed!! VERY IMPORTANT and then head out to meet friends to workout. I’m so lucky that I’ve found friends in my new life who are as committed as my old friends were to exercise!!

After taking care of myself mentally and physically, I can then come home to start the rest of my day. If I happen to have time, I watch The Today Show which I record every morning. I still want to be informed as to what is going on in the world so I read from news outlets and watch new programs later in the day.

The life changing difference is that I don’t start my day with news anymore!!

Wow this sounds like an excellent morning routine. I so need coffee and breakfast in the morning. I have low blood sugar it gets kind of ugly if I don’t! : O I read the Artist’s Way that is a great book. And I say prayers to my loved ones on the other side first thing in the morning.
