Care For My Wooden Front Door

October 6, 2020 by Sharon

I have been at a loss as to how to care for my wooden front door. It is a beautiful solid wood door, and I was afraid that I might ruin it!!

How To Maintain Exterior Wooden Doors

A simple solution of mild dish soap and warm water used with a clean, smooth rag is the best way to clean an exterior door. Wipe until no more dirt or dust is evident when you swipe across the surface and allow the door to dry. If you have a wood door, apply a quality oil. Click HERE for further reading from the ETO Door Company.

Here is what my door looked like. It gets the full sun of New Mexico mornings and was starting to really show signs of dryness.

I heard about this product from my former student and blogger, Jesse Coulter at http://www.jessecoulter.net/ . She used it on her door, and I immediately bought it to try it. It did not disappoint.

This product can be purchased HERE. (affiliate link)

Half way through the process, I took this picture. The right side has been cleaned and oiled. The left shows the dry door. Quite a difference!

I was shocked at how much oil this door soaked up!! It was amazing.

Here is the final product. I will wait a few more days and go over it again because I think it still needs more oil. It was terribly try.

Dry Climate

I live in the dessert climate of New Mexico so I desperately need to keep all wood in my house oiled. I think I’ve found the perfect product.

Now I need to finish my quarantine so I can go to the store and buy pumpkins and mums! I can’t wait.

New Wreath

I also found this new wreath on Amazon. I finally threw away my old that I had for several years. It just looked to shabby to put out again this year. I love the difference a new wreath makes at the change of seasons!
