Affordable Colorado- Telluride

December 10, 2021 by Sharon

Here’s my last installment in my Affordable Colorado series. I’ve saved the best for last with Telluride. It might be the time of year that we went. The leaves were at their height of beauty. Maybe it’s that I loved the Telluride vibe. No chichi vibe like Aspen or Vail. Just beauty. You don’t need any extras when you are as beautiful as Telluride!!

We stayed in the dreamiest Air BNB. I loved every sing detail of this place, and Lili has an attention to detail. We stayed right on main street in the Penthouse on Main. I loved staying here. It has a small kitchen and even a washer/dryer combo.

The kitchen was fully stocked with a small refrigerator so we could have cooked an easy meal, but we wanted to eat out every meal. I made myself coffee in the French press every morning, but there is a coffee truck right across the street. This is the coziest space in the center of everything in town. It’s also a short walk to the gondola.

The gondola (unlike Aspen and Vail) is free. It takes you up to the heart of Mountain Village and the views are gorgeous!

We ate breakfast in Mountain Village our first morning there. We ate at Black Iron Kitchen and loved it. If you go, you must get a biscuit.

The best biscuit I’ve ever eaten!!

After breakfast, we took the gondola to the midway point going back towards town. We hiked the Telluride Trail back into town. You can either hike up (which is quite steep) or hike town then ride the gondola wherever else you want to go. Since it is steep, our calves were killing up the next morning, but the scenery was worth any muscle soreness!! It was an easy hike because we went down the whole way!

dining at La Marmotte

We ate dinner the first night at La Marmotte– a wonderful French restaurant just down from the gondola. It’s a pricey place, but the food is very good. The kids surprised us and bought our dinner from afar for their gift to Dr. T for his birthday! It was a lovely evenig!

Resting after a hike. I love all the nooks and crannies in this town!

The next morning we started out on a hike on the Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail. We had heard there are spectacular views here too, and this trail did not disappoint. This is not an easy trail no matter which end you start at. It was fairly steep in many places, but it is so worth it!

This hike is a must when visiting Telluride!

After our hike, I went to Pure Beauty and Wellness Spa while Dr. T watched some football. I had a facial. They use cyrotherapy there so it was a little different. I probably would go to a different spa for a facial.

Pure is also a salt cave so they sell the salt lamps etc.

For dinner we ate at Rustico. Rustico is an Italian restaurant with a beautiful outdoor patio. It was too chilly to keep the patio open while we were there. The ambiance was nice, but the food just wasn’t the best Italian. We still had a fun evening!

We bought chocolate at Telluride Truffle. It was a fun, short walk to get to it, and the chocolate and ice cream were very good.

Our last morning, we got coffee and doughnuts at Baked Telluride. Baked is definitely a don’t miss when you go!! So many baked goods along with great breakfast burritos. They also serve lunch and early dinners!!

Telluride is a relatively short drive for us so we will definitely go back. Our trip there was such a great getaway!!

Where is your favorite place to go in Colorado? My daughter is getting married in Breckenridge this summer so I can’t want to explore that cute little town.
