4 Easy Ways To Help The Environment

February 23, 2022 by Sharon

Are you looking for ways you can help the environment? Oh good, me too. Here are 4 easy ways I’m trying to help the environment. If we all make a few changes in our daily lives, I believe we truly can change the world!!

This beautiful window rock is just a few miles from my home!

4 Easy Ways To Help The Environment

1- I Don’t Use a Pod Coffee Maker

I know that coffee makers that use pods are easy, but to me the cost of throwing away all those pods into our land fills give me anxiety!

I found this article about the issue. Is your quick java fix killing the environment? I wish coffee would come up with small bags like tea bags. That might make a difference with these popular coffee makers.

My kids know how I feel about this issue, but also knew that I was wanting a coffee maker to make single cups– I love a cup of decaf in the afternoon on a cold day! They bought me this coffee maker for Christmas this year.

2- I Don’t Buy To Go Coffees

I don’t buy to go coffees very much. I love visiting Europe- especially France because there are very few places to get coffee to go. I even enjoyed my coffee at London’s Heathrow airport once by drinking it out of the cup and saucer provided. I could have gotten it to go, but most people were sitting there taking the time to enjoy the refreshing cup of coffee.

Starbucks offers reusable cups, but I’m not sure they are available at the drive through.

3- I Avoid Single Use Plastics

I avoid using single use plastics like water bottles as often as possible.

Have you seen pictures of the huge piles of trash found in our oceans. You can read about them Here. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch explains how single use plastics are so bad for our oceans.

One way I avoid single use plastics is that I rarely buy plastic water bottles. I always take a time water bottle when I workout. It also helps me keep track of the amount of water I drink each day. These water bottles can be purchased HERE>

I also avoid sports drinks in bottles. After a doctor’s appointment when I got in trouble for being very dehydrated, I’ve tried to find ways to up my electrolytes. I use these Gatorade packets in my water bottle. I don’t use the full strength. I put 1/2 a packet in in the morning. When I refill, I add the other half of the packet. You can find these at your local grocery store, but you can purchase them HERE too. My favorite flavors are Glacier Freeze and Glacier Cherry.

Did I mention these are sugar free, and you don’t through away a big water bottle when you are done with them!

I have these ordered. I reuse my shopping bags as well as the produce bags at my grocery store, but I want to try these produce bags so I don’t even use plastic at all.

These can be purchased HERE.

I love where I live!

4- I Rarely Buy Hard Copy Books

If you’ve followed me for very long, you know I love books, but most of the books I read today are ebooks. I either buy Kindle books from Amazon. Or a great way to save the environment and money is to check out ebooks from your library. All you need is the overdrive app. Your local friendly librarian will help you with the rest.

The only hard copy books I buy now are for books studies where I need to mark in them. I even get the few magazines I still read on my Kindle.

These are just the easy, daily things I do to try to make a difference! What about you. Teach me more things I can do, and I’ll share them!!
