Peak Of The Week 7-24-19

Happy Wednesday!! It's an excellent Peak to the Week! I'm loving this summer. The weather has been hot, but pleasant in the mountains of New Mexico!!! My favorite summer activity is sitting outside doing whatever!! I just love being out in nature!!

Along with sharing links that have piqued my interest this week. I'm also sharing my Nana's pie safe at the end of this post!!

Hemmingway's Cats-- I always read articles about Hemmingway's cats. When R and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, we went to Key West. One of our must-stops was the Hemmingway House there. We fell in love with his cats and told each other we wanted to get a 6 toed cat. He died a few days after our 26th anniversary. A few weeks later, when I was helping at a small library at one of my school district's campuses that was being closed, a beautiful 6 toed cat came up to me. The principal told me they needed to find a home for it since the campus was being closed. Of course, I had to have him, and I named him Hemmingway!! He always reminded me of R.
A 6 toed cat from the Hemingway House in Key West.

My sweet Hemingway. He looks tired because he was just waking up from anesthesia.

Dr. Pepper "Icing On The Cake" flavored soda!! I have to find this for Dr. T. He loves his Dr. Peppers!

Sunrise Springs in Santa Fe-- I know Santa Fe, New Mexico is a popular place to visit. I feel so lucky to live in New Mexico now and have easy access to all things Santa Fe. Sunrise Springs is a unique experience and one that I hope to visit sometime! I had a chance to go there with some friends, but I was back in Texas and didn't get to. It not only offers yoga and other relaxing, peaceful moments, but counseling is also provided. It is the Real Deal of restful experiences!!!

Illustrated Mueller Report- With Robert Mueller testifying today, I thought it was good to share this link. It is an illustrated and adapted version of his report!!

When my Nana passed away, my cousins and I all got together and were able to take things that we wanted. Her pie safe was passed over. My dad called me one night and said, "I've rechecked with everyone. No one wants the pie safe. Are you sure you don't want it?"

Of course, I did!!! I got it, had it refinished, and it was in my kitchen in the house in Texas ever since. Dr. T and I were there a few weeks ago, and I decided to bring it back to New Mexico with me so I could enjoy it every day!! I have loved having it here. I put all my teapots in it, but I don't think they will stay there. I love to display them, and it's too hard to keep the door open on this pie safe. This pie safe was in her kitchen for many years. I wish I knew the complete story behind it. I think she and my grandad got it early in there marriage so they had it for many years!! It is one of my favorite possessions!!

Dr. T and I talked on our drive back to NM with this in the back of his truck about how we wish this piece of furniture could talk!!! I'd love to know the whole story behind it. I sure wish I had asked my Nana about it!!!

A Night At The Opera- Cosi Fan Tutte

Don't forget to follow on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter

We were invited to the Santa Fe Opera by some friends from our church. I was so excited to go because I love live productions and had never been to an Opera. I'd also read about how much fun and how "fancy" tailgating before the Santa Fe Opera can be. I couldn't wait to get there.

Our hosts organized the menu, and the group of about 20 signed up for what they wanted to bring.

The tables were quickly set up when we all got there and setting the tables began. I wish I had gotten pictures of the main course and desserts, but again, I was living in the moment. All the food was delicious! I made a charcuterie board for the appetizer course.

It was lovely to eat and visit under the beautiful New Mexico sky. What a view we had!!

Tailgating!

Unfortunately, gray clouds and rain started moving in. I think Dr. T knew I wouldn't want to get caught out in a downpour, and he helped quickly put the tables away, which cut our time outdoors short. We did get some beautiful pictures of the rain moving in and a glimpse of a gorgeous rainbow.

My friend who invited me.

I had several compliments on my dress!! It can be found here

What a beautiful venue.

This is how the stage was set for the entire production- no set.

The opera we saw was Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart. It was a funny performance. Some in our group were a bit disappointed because of this particular interpretation. I know nothing about opera so please forgive me if I use some terminology that isn't correct with my opinion.

First of all, there were no sets. Not a lamp, not a stool-- nothing.  This was a disappointment to some because they are used to some of the elaborate sets, and marvel at the creativity of how the sets are used.

Secondly, the costumes were a bit unique!! The first character to walk on stage is Don Alfonso. I don't know what I was expecting, but I was not expecting a cowboy. Next, we meet, Guglielmo and Ferrando also dressed all in white.

When we meet the two, young women, they look a bit like sorority girls headed out in matching tennis outfits.

Is Absurdist Opera a term?

The character of Despina is the only one who seems to be dressed the least bit like I was expecting- always in dresses.

The title Cossi Fan Tutte roughly translates, "all women are alike." Meaning that they will all be unfaithful. The plot is funny. The lack of set or elaborate costumes puts pressure on the performers to outdo each previous scene. None of these performers disappointed!! They were fabulous!! The character of Despina stole the show!!

So my take away as an opera newbie is that last Saturday night, I was privileged to get to see a performance by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart first performed in 1790. Wow!! Every time one goes to a live performance, it will be different. I don't compare the Broadway shows that I've been to see. Each stands on its own merit. Each one is a separate and unique experience. This was definitely a unique experience. I will value this interpretation with an open mind and am already reliving it!!

Dr. T and I had a great conversation on the drive home about what we thought different aspects of the production meant. We are still unsure about the pouring of liquid out of what looked to be liquor bottles onto the four main characters towards the end of the opera--some sort of baptism perhaps?

I guess we will just have to continue to relive and discuss Cosi Fan Tutte. Isn't that what any art form is meant to invoke-- thought and discussion? If that is the case, Cosi Fan Tutte is a hit.

Our group!! It's always nice to meet new people!

What I Wore- Florida (and what we ate!!)

It's Fashion Friday!! I don't feel very fashionable lately, but I do love clothes. I'm trying to gain more followers, and doing fashion posts get quite a few followers so I keep doing them!! I'd love to know your favorite travel tips and travel outfits!! Comment and let me know!!

We had a great time on our trip to Florida for a conference that Dr. T attended! It was hot, hot, hot, and I loved it!! Here are a few things I wore while we were there!! ( And, some things we ate!!)

Travel Outfits
Travel Day clothes. This was super comfortable, and I received a lot of compliments!!

Dr. T's days consisted of all-day meetings! My days consisted of a great morning workout and pool time every day!! It was very relaxing for me!!!

I actually got to see him more on the trip than I do at home because he works such long hours. We found some fun restaurants!!

Our first night, we ate at Hash House A Go Go. Isn't that the greatest name?

This was a fun place because the presentation of the food was spectacular!! We sat there and watched how each plate looked as the waitstaff took trays to tables!! That is rosemary in that burger!!

Our second day was our only completely free day. I couldn't stand the thoughts of being in Florida and not going to the beach, so we drove an hour to Cocoa Beach. I was a little disappointed. The water was not very pretty, but we still had a great day. It was hot and extremely crowded!!

Pasta straws were great, but when they brought us more water, she brought a new plastic glass.
That really disappointed me!! I'm trying to do better with waste!!

I got the lobster hoagie when we ate at the Pier. It was delicious!!!

Sunset view at our hotel!!

The conference reserved a section of Universal Studios City Walk for the attendees. We had food from Bob Marley's restaurant, Pat Obrien's, and a Karaoke Bar. It was a fun night!! I went extremely casual and wore jean shorts.

Dr. T is always joking around!!

We waited to celebrate our 4th anniversary until we were there. We found a beautiful steak and seafood restaurant called Moon Fish. It was beautiful inside, and the food was delicious.

I wore this jumpsuit I bought at Target. It is very comfortable!! Similar one here.

Travel Outfits
I felt that the back was a little low for my age! I love the new bralettes that are available now. I think it helps girls maintain some modesty since clothes today are so revealing, and the fabric is so thin and see-through!!

Terrible picture, but this came with our dessert!!

Another night we went to Icon Park where there is a huge Observation Wheel. We ate Mexican food and had a great time people-watching in this fun area.

I wore this dress I picked up at Zara (see my post here). This dress is now on sale. I loved wearing it!!

I also got many compliments while out in this dress. It was great for the heat and humidity of Florida!!

Is there a theme here? Dr. T is always joking around!!

This was a very family-friendly area. We had a great night!

This observation wheel is the largest on the east coast. It looked really hot to me. We didn't ride it. I couldn't tell if the cars had AC.

Our last night we had a great Italian meal. I was so in the moment that I didn't take any pictures!! I still want to share this place in case any of you are planning a trip to Orlando. Fresco Cucina Italiana is a must-visit restaurant.

I admit that I can be a snit when it comes to restaurants. I would much rather eat at a locally owned restaurant instead of a chain. This restaurant is local, and the food was delicious!!

The Bruschetta was delicious!!

They were so busy we just ate at the bar. It was so cozy, and the bartenders were so attentive to us. It was a great experience. I can't recommend it enough!!

I get to travel to another beach destination in August when I tag along to another conference. I've bought some things I can't wait to share!!
