Flowers and A Life Lesson

For the past couple of weeks, I've had something in the back of my mind. I've been replaying all the wonderful things said about R when he passed away. I've been picturing all the plants and flowers sent as signs of love and support. He would have been so shocked as the kids and I were so shocked by all of it.

My huge take away the last few weeks has been---Why do we wait until the funeral to say the nice things about someone? Why do we wait until the funeral or other tragedy to tell someone we love them?

Isn't it too late at the funeral?

Then yesterday...I received these flowers in the mail with an incredibly sweet card. To my shock, they were from a young man whom I've known since he was a little boy and his loving wife. This young man is the son of one of my best friends and is also one of my son's best friends.

My thoughts from the past couple of weeks were lived out in this action. This couple acted on their feelings and didn't wait until a tragedy or a funeral. They wanted me to know how happy they are to see our family moving forward after our personal tragedy seven years ago. They love me. They love my family and want me to know.

My son is getting married in March. It's a busy time. It's a happy time. It's a bittersweet time. I was having an unusually rough day yesterday. The tears flowed. I haven't had a day like that in quite a while--- where I just couldn't shake it.

And then, the flowers came. A sweet gesture with more meaning for me than this sweet couple will ever know.

Today is Valentine's Day. Who do I need to send a text to or make a phone call to let them know how special they are to me? I don't want to wait until the funerals anymore!!

How about you? Is there someone you need to contact today?

These flowers are extraordinary on their own. They are from Blooms By Heinua. They last a year without being watered!!

  1. It's true. We should be telling our loved ones what they mean to us before it's too late. I lost 3 Grandparents within 13 months and I regret that I didn't spend more time with them when I could.

  2. So true! People keep wasting time and even worse, hurting your feelings, until you’re gone. So sad!
Lovely what the couple made you feel by sending the flowers and their love!
