What I Read

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

I recently finished Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. A friend recommended it after she saw it on Reese Witherspoon's list of books to read. This book did not disappoint. I couldn't wait to see what happens to these characters.

I was instantly drawn into the book at the prologue. It begins in 1969 when the dead body of Chase Andrews is found in the nearby swamp. It is quickly evident that this young man has been murdered.

The plot quickly shifts in Chapter one. We go back in time to 1952 and are introduced to Kya who is six years old. Slowly everyone in her family leaves and hse is left to fend for herself in the swamp.

This little piggy stayed home.

The rest of the novel is built on these two plot lines going forward simultaneously until they both converge.

I fell in love with Kya and cheered at her self made successes. I felt her loneliness at being an outcast to so many.

I highly recommend this well-crafted story and am so glad to hear the Reese Witherspoon is turning it into a movie!!

If you've read it, let me know your thoughts.

If you want to find more books on Reese Witherspoon's list go to her online book club, Hello Sunshine.
